Story
In
1980 our US military switched its entire food ration program over
to an exciting new technology.
In
1983 our founder, a brash young man just back from 5 years of overseas
adventures, decided to deliver these same “cool” rations
to American outdoor enthusiasts.
He
started our predecessor company, Resourceful Foods Co., to pull
off this "swords to plowshares” initiative. He would
bring the benefits of high tech food pouches made for war, to a
dozen peaceful activities that are good for the soul.
At
the same time, he would participate in a brand new craze called
"Recycling." He would recycle MRE food pouches, piling
up in small lots of contract overruns, at large food canners and
pouch makers like Green Giant and Hormel.
The
“ugly duckling” green military food pouches had been
rejected by everyone from grocery stores to restaurants, and were
considered too unattractive to be served even in food kitchens for
the homeless!
If
the ugly green pouches had had feelings, they would have been crushed
to hear the news, that they were headed for the land fill!
Highly
nutritious and beautifully designed, high tech foods pouches, with
a much longer than normal shelf life, headed for the land fill!
But
then unfolded another, typical American dream – the brash
young man decided to build a smorgasbord of MRE pieces of all kinds.
He would bring the ugly but delicious little pouches to an adoring
public, people with an eye to inner value.
The
Smorgasbord was in a Mail Order Catalog for 19 years, then entered
a cocoon and emerged 6 years ago as a beautiful On-Line Smorgasbord
or Buffet.
Over
these 28 years, Resourceful Foods Co., and (since 1996)
Long Life Food Depot, LLC, have been at the forefront of MRE appreciation
and promotion – of turning an ugly duckling product into a
superior brand name!
Through
those years our not so young founder had gotten the brash knocked
out of him by life and the trials of business. He had become almost
normal.
Our
customers are people who appreciate food that is real and delicious,
and lasts a long time, but which has no beautiful, colorful wrapper.
That idea may seem a bit un-American, but those smorgasbord
shoppers see those green pouches as a superior brand name, with
all sorts of hidden implications, such as:

Through
our on-line MRE Smorgasbord, we provide a continuous supply
of the pouched MRE components and Full Meals to campers, hunters,
fishermen, survivalists, adventurers, relief groups, buying co-ops,
government feeding agencies, etc…. that is, to all our customers!
These
days, our adventure continues – making the Smorgasbord better
and better, and sometimes bigger. We know that MRE pouches and Full
Meals are a narrow focus for a company, but this narrow focus allows
us to do a really great job!
We
carry a large selection, and our web site is up-to-the-minute, so
no back orders occur! We ship quickly and for free. We
have eliminated every obstacle we can think of, to allow a smooth
and pleasant on-line Smorgasbord experience!

now our old founder is still in touch, but not with reality. He
is digging a hole to China on a John Deere 850J crawler dozer. …
he has become a loose nut that cannot be trusted.

we are determined not to be ones who violate your privacy.

A 15% restocking fee and appropriate shipping
charges will be charged for canceled orders.

Shipping and Handling Policy
1.
All prices are delivered prices, within the contiguous
United States, by UPS or Common Carrier. We charge
nothing for Shipping or Handling for these orders.
Orders shipped beyond the contiguous U.S. will
pay only the shipping charge above and beyond the U.S. portion
of the shipping.
Definition:
Contiguous U.S.: The continental United States commonly
refers to the 48 contiguous states located on the central
part of the North American continent.

We reserve the right to pack your order with 2 or more case
contents in a larger carton, so as to minimize shipping costs,
which we pay. (All our prices include shipping costs,
which is very unusual in this day and age!) For MRE Full Meals,
this means 2 cases (24 meals) packed in one large carton. For
other products it means we will pack multiple case orders in
the most efficient way possible.
3.
For shipping by U.S. Postal Service (3rd class), add 15%. All
our delivered prices are calculated based on UPS and LTL (Less
Than Load - i.e. palletized orders) rates. For all orders which
require shipping by the U.S. Postal Service (including Shipments
to Alaska, Hawaii, and P.O. Boxes): ADD 15%TO LISTED PRICES.

These
discounts are applied automatically by our web site Shopping
Cart once you have finalized your order. No matter how you
plan to make payment for your order, the simplest ordering
procedure is to let our web site calculate your Total with
discounts, and then choose your type of payment (credit card,
send in check, call in credit card, etc.)
- Our
5 year Guarantee
We
guarantee our MRE products to last 5 years from the date of
sale, in a room temperature environment (70 deg. F), no matter
what the production date. Of course, the production
date is visible on all our entrees and on most side dishes,
desserts, and other components.
The
production date is a four digit number (date code)
on each item, example "5156." In this example the
5 represents the year 2005 (a "4" would represent
2004, etc.), the 156 represents the 156th day of the year.

Date Code.
At
this time nearly all of our MRE products were manufactured
between 2007 and 2008 and have always been kept in a climate-controlled
warehouse to ensure freshness.

are prepared to guarantee our products for 5 years from date

are not philosophers. We are long shelf-life food purveyors.

we have no idea what future humans will be like. We are just hoping
and praying that there will be some, as many as possible, and that
they will do us all proud in the universe and in the view of the
Ultimate.

we plan to do our little part in the infinite scheme of things –
we plan to provide long shelf-life food for current humans, so that
some day they may become those future humans(!).
We’ll
help those current humans through any future moments of food lack,
whether intentional (like camping for fun) or imposed by nature
or world economics (like earthquakes, hurricanes or recessions).
We
believe that current humans, being half divine, are the most fascinating
animals on the planet, and that those future humans will
be even more interesting and wonderful. We want to do our part for
them, the future humans

hiker, and my group was planning a trip to the Grand Canyon, to
do a Rim to Rim hike. We needed MRE’s for our meals, so I

Oh my God!! I ordered a couple of cases of the SW Chicken and Beans,
I planned to try it and maybe order a couple of cases each month to
build up a supply. As soon as it came, I had to try one to see if
I want to keep ordering. I have had MRE’s before and they were
OK. But, your food was unreal. I can’t believe how good it was.
As soon as I opened your package I raised an eyebrow because it looked
like it was going to be great. I warmed it and I can’t believe
how good it was. My wife is picky and she even loved it. I wouldn’t
mind eating it to keep it rotated with the 5-year storage limit. It
is really good food. I might get some burrito wrappers and wrap the
SW chicken in it to make a burrito! I honestly could not cook anything
that good myself, but please keep your prices the same.
Anyway, thanks
and I will be ordering more. We have young kids so, since I don’t
know who to listen to about having emergency food, I think I will
error on the safe side and have food storage.

You guys should really put the fact that your prices include free
shipping, right at the top of your home page. Quite frankly, I’d
been looking at your site for a couple of months thinking that your
prices seemed kinda high, if you added shipping. It was just two weeks
ago that I scrolled down and noticed that shipping was included! I
now plan on making several purchases, as the price is actually quite

IMPRESSED!!!! Hey there, and my compliments. I ordered and had 2 cases
of your meals in my closet for, like the last 7 years. It was my “peace
of mind” kit.
Recently they
served as part of my overnight kit since I’m part of a Search
and Rescue team, and now part of a Mountain rescue team. We’re
‘required’ to have MREs or something to keep us going
for at least 24 hours (we’re part of a ‘1st dispatch’
team and have to be self sustaining until replaced within 24 hours).
Well, you probably
wonder where this is going…
I figured that
I need to buy some ‘new’ meals since these are getting
to the end of their shelf life…but I wondered BEFORE I buy
more, maybe I should try ‘em to see if I even like ‘em.
WELL, slap
my butt and call me spanky, after 7 years this Chicken with Thai
Sauce, White Rice and Cracker meal actually tasted nice!!! I mean,
the best compliment is I even finished it!!
The heater
worked and everything.
Okay, so you probably know all this, but I had no idea, and am very
impressed!!!
I will definitely
continue to order stuff from you, and hopefully eat it before 7
years go by.

order from you guys (it came in quick and in perfect condition!) I’ll
make another purchase from you. I’d like to thank you for your
LOW prices and including the shipping cost in the price… and
your continual online discount! It makes MREs affordable, and less
that a medium cheeseburger with fries and a drink…not to mention
MUCH better tasting, MORE nutritional, and with an authentic military
feel to them! Local stores charge from 5.99 (fake MREs…) to
7.00 (real 3-5 year old MREs) but you guys have them BEAT!!!
